Process

Once we have received the logo/artwork, it can take up to a week for us to generate a proof. We will then send that back to you for approval or changes. Once everything looks the way you like and you approve, the proof will be sent to the printer. It can take up to 2 – 3 days for the printer to generate a printer’s proof. Once FoodTronix has this proof, it will be sent to you. Please look over the printer’s proof very carefully. Check for spelling, the physical address is correct, and anything else, once it is printed there is no turning back or refunds for something you missed. When you do approve the printer’s proof is approved by you, Please reply to the email with “Printer Proof is approved, Please proceed to print”. It can take up to 4 weeks for the cards to be printed and encoded. Although it usually about 3 weeks.

Do NOT send artwork in :

• Word Perfect
• Microsoft Word
• Microsoft Powerpoint

Artwork can be sent in :

• Adobe Acrobat (PDF)
• Adobe Photoshop
• GIF
• JPG / JPEG

Resolution

The lowest resolution is 300 DPI. When sending an PDF, it needs to be in CMYK format, not RGB.

To Check DPI :

• Right Click on the image file name
• Choose Properties
• Click on the Details Tab
• Look at the Horizontal and Vertical resolutions

Dimensions

Needs to be at least 640 x 480. The bigger the number, the better.

To check Dimensions :

• Right Click on the image file name
• Choose Properties
• Click on the Details Tab
• Look at the Dimensions
• Dimensions or Width and Height — again 640 x 480 please!

The Dimension is the lesser worry, but the Resolution is a must. Another tale-tale indicator of how good the artwork is, is the file size. If it is small, 10KB or so it probably not usable. 1MB probably good.

Evaluating artwork can add additional time

Once the printer proof is done and approved, the cards will go into the production queue. It can take up to 3 to 5 weeks (if it is high season – Christmas / Valentines it could take the 5-7 weeks). This is a print job where they take very large sheets of plastic, print color images on these large sheets (front and back). Then cut them down to cards. The cards then go to another area to be encoded – where the gift card numbers are magnetized on the cards. This is why it takes weeks not days.

Front of the Card

This will have their artwork on it. We recommend NOT printing the text “Gift Card”. This way the card can be used for more than just an “Gift Card”, like loyalty.

Back of the Card

This is a standard boiler plate template. It will be white (or the primary color) background with the legal mumbo jumbo about gift cards, the restaurant name and address. We can put the website at the top of the card, and put the Facebook page info at the bottom of the address if so desired. Not much room to do much here as the Mag Stripe takes most of the real estate. Can not do artwork on the back of the cards, that is what the front is for.
